What Is This Project?

Until Every Cage is Empty is an interactive map that exposes the vast infrastructure of animal exploitation across the United States. Using publicly available government data, we've compiled and mapped thousands of facilities including slaughterhouses, processing plants, animal research laboratories, commercial breeders, dealers, and exhibitors.

This comprehensive mapping tool brings together data from multiple federal agencies—USDA, APHIS, and others—into a single, searchable interface that allows users to discover the reality of animal exploitation operating in their own communities and across the nation.

Our Motivation

We created this tool because transparency drives change. The animal exploitation industry deliberately operates out of public view, with facilities strategically hidden in rural areas and industrial zones. By making this concealed infrastructure visible and accessible, we aim to:

• Shatter Ignorance: Help people confront the true scale and geographic reach of animal exploitation in America
• Fuel Investigation: Provide researchers, journalists, and advocates with the data they need to expose wrongdoing and demand accountability
• Power Resistance: Give animal rights activists precise information to organize targeted campaigns and disrupt business as usual
• Force Accountability: Make it impossible for facilities to hide violations and welfare abuses from public scrutiny

Why This Matters

Every year, billions of animals are processed through the facilities mapped on this site. These are sentient beings with the capacity for pain, fear, and suffering, yet their exploitation happens behind walls designed to keep you from witnessing it. By mapping where this violence occurs, we believe we can:
